6/2/2014 Lots to catch up on! Parties and Soirees and Poetry - and Good News about the Shin Divot!

June - there's always a little wistful thing that passes through me when I write 6 instead of 5 in the date. I love May - it's my birthday month, which is nice, but it is always such a beautiful month here in northern California. The air is full of flowers' scents, and the sky is usually blue, new leaves everywhere, my favorite mockingbirds set to singing...
June is lovely, too - but it gets a little hotter, and a little drier (Especially this year with the drought,  that is something)

But I had a LOVELY last weekend of May!
It's why I've been away for three days. Too Much Fun for time to write!  I can't say how wonderful it is to have plans on a Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday Night and Sunday evening and not only make it to ALL of them, but add in an impromptu lunch with a friend on Sunday!!

I just sort of realized that this had happened tonight, and I was so happy! It has been SO LONG (I know, I know - that seems to be my most-used phrase here, but - it's TRUE!) since I had more than one or two planned events on a weekend, and could make them solidly, without the "I'll need to play it by ear" caveat, knowing I could be too tired or in pain to leave the house. I no longer count the times I have to go up and down the stairs (My knees have been grumpy lately, but not anywhere near the "Stair-trip-counting levels of before).

Friday Night was the Diabetes fundraiser at Bob and Jr's I discussed in the previous post - fantastic fun (In heels!) ! Home around 1:30? 2:00 am? :)

Saturday - off to meet with Jt over a poem of his we will be reading, and to talk about Portugal, the Portuguese, things mystical and the city of Lisbon (Lisboa) , which is my character in the poem - (sort-of play - he's jokingly taken to calling it a "ploem") -the spirit of Lisbon. It is an exciting and thrilling project which requires lots of hard work and discovery and - learning to pronounce Portuguese well, as well as sing some of it!  This is a dream project!

In the evening, my friends Keith and Molly debuted their back yard Tiki bar - which Keith built with his hands and a few power tools - seriously beautiful craftsmanship - no fake materials, no corner-cutting. He carved, burned, scrubbed and varnished many pieces of wood to make the bar, pillars, several signs sign, extended pergola with woven bamboo matting over the top, decorations over the Bocci pitch, and stocked the bar with the most amazing authentic vintage tiki glasses and mugs and decor! Vintage tiki lights twinkle above it all, and there are several sitting areas including rattan furniture and  table tennis , too! Great friends were there old and new and it was a REALLY good time! I baked a Tiki tropical coconut/pineapple/mango/Lilikoi cobbler - there was much delicious food and music and a fire pit - and laughter ran through it all!
Home by 3: 30 am

Sunday - Slept in! - went to lunch with Mariam for Thai food - delicious!
And in the evening, my dear friends who run the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival had a great event in one of out local parks - right across the street from the amphitheater where they perform Shakespeare in the Park every summer, in Fairy Tale Town - they had a "Peek Under the Curtain" event. People could come for free, and sit on the lawn and watch the performers give demonstrations of How It's Done - how a dance is choreographed, costume quick-change demonstrations, fight choreography - a fun time, and I got to see so many friends! It was grand!

And the capper! Tonight when I changed the dressing on the Shin Divot, I removed the blue foam dressing that is the first layer over the wound - last visit. a week ago, Tisha, the wound care specialist, cut the blue foam into a larger shape so it would compress more of the wound and flatten it out in the healing process, making less of a scar and making the skin, which had lifted some, lie flat. I don't need to remove the blue foam unless it turns white, but it hadn't - I just wanted to check my progress.
And WHAT PROGRESS!!! Tisha is my HERO! The wound is finally growing in from both sides - it is two- thirds healed, with a small section in the center(which is much less deep than before) waiting to close up!! It may not completely flatten out ever, and there will be about a nickle-sized scar, but I can certainly deal with that!!! And I won't run much risk of re-opening the wound ( this can be a problem with ulcerations when there is a chronic condition like diabetes or varicose veins, but I don't have either,)

I may have mentioned this, but I was very glad to consult with wound care and confirm that the vein mapping ultrasound they ordered is NOT necessary. If it were, I would have gone through with it - but it is an unnecessary and expensive test and I am the boss. I won't make an uninformed decision, but I WILL make  decision!! And as of now, as far as I am concerned, the vascular surgery department is fired.
I'm pretty cheesed off at the fact that they treated me with an archaic dressing of zinc oxide and gauze bandage and compression wrap, which KEPT IT from healing for THREE WEEKS. I am certain the scar would be far less otherwise. But a scar, I can deal with. Chronic failure to heal, I'd have a problem
I cannot say how thrilled I am that this thing is almost healed!! I will keep an eye out for any swelling and use the pressure stocking if so- I'm not an idiot! :) But I know what to do. I can't wait to see Tisha Wednesday and show her how well I'm healing!

Rightm then - all tha sleep I didn't get over the weekend, party girl that I seem to be, had me WHUPPED today - and here it is, nearly 2:30 on a work night. Thank goodness I have nothing I have to do tomorrow night. Come home, crash - and I HOPE, get on the exercycle before I crash too hard. I MUCH get my stamina up again. And all fun aside, I need to be getting decent sleep, too.

So - there you have it! My Life - coming back in fine fashion!
